OMVLAP - black 350-01

The Ohio Military/Veterans Legal Assistance Project (OMVLAP) is a non-profit corporation whose mission is to provide legal representation to the brave men and women of this nation who are putting themselves, or who have previously put themselves, in harm’s way to protect our country and serve us all.

Lawyers who participate in OMVLAP programs have offered to provide legal representation in either (or both) Operation Legal Help Ohio – a program in which lawyers assist veterans and active-duty servicemembers whose family income is below 200% of the federal poverty level with certain types of civil law issues without charging a fee, or Legal Salute Ohio – a program in which lawyers are willing to represent full-time active-duty servicemembers, rank E-6 or below, at fees substantially reduced from their normal rates.

Operation Legal Help Ohio (OLHO) helps to connect low-income servicemembers and veterans with volunteer lawyers willing to represent them free of charge in the following legal actions: landlord/tenant issues and evictions, credit card debt and other consumer issues, employment and reemployment challenges (as defined under USERRA), uncontested divorce or dissolution, estate planning (wills and advance directives), and VA benefits.

For active-duty servicemembers (rank E-6 and lower) who may not be eligible for OLHO because they do not meet the low-income requirements, Legal Salute Ohio (LSO) offers a pool of volunteer attorneys who may be willing to offer representation in civil matters for greatly reduced legal fees.

The Ohio Military/Veterans Legal Assistance Project has teamed up with Starbucks to offer a monthly free legal clinic for Ohio’s low-income veterans. The clinic will be offered at the Starbucks location at 1873 Henderson Road in Columbus on the second Monday of each month, from 5-8 p.m. Appointments are by reservation only and can be made by clicking here.
